What is a VET Student Loan?
VET Student Loans is an Australian Government scheme that provides eligible students with loans to pay part or all of their tuition fees in approved diploma-level VET courses.
AHBA is preparing to seek VET Student Loans approval following our initial ASQA registration. Once approved, VSL will be available on selected Diploma qualifications including the Diploma of Beauty Therapy and Diploma of Salon Management.
How it works
If approved for a VET Student Loan, the Commonwealth pays your tuition fees directly to AHBA on your behalf. The amount paid becomes a debt you repay through the tax system once your income reaches the compulsory repayment threshold.
Eligibility
- You must be an Australian citizen, permanent humanitarian visa holder, or qualifying New Zealand SCV holder.
- You must meet academic suitability requirements (LLN assessment).
- You must be enrolled in an approved VSL course at AHBA.
- You must complete a Commonwealth Assistance Form (CAF) by census day.
Repayments
You start repaying your VET Student Loan through the Australian Taxation Office once your income reaches the compulsory repayment threshold. Loans are indexed annually.
Loan Caps
Each VSL-approved course has a maximum loan amount set by the Department. If your course fee exceeds the loan cap, the difference is payable by you directly.
